The Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano was installed as Fifth Bishop of Bridgeport on September 19, 2013 at St. Theresa Church in Trumbull. From the time he arrived in the Diocese, Bishop Caggiano has made a priority the active engagement of all the faithful in the great project of the New Evangelization.

It was in that spirit that he convoked the 4th Synod of the Diocese of Bridgeport in 2014 which sought to discern ways in which the local Church might empower youth, build up the community of faith, foster evangelical outreach, and promote works of charity and justice.

Bishop Caggiano believes strongly in the crucial role that priests have in the lives of the faithful as teachers of the faith, as pastors who help people live in loving fidelity to the truth of Christ, and leaders in the Church who empower the faithful by serving them and sanctifying them through the administration of the sacraments. For this reason he is deeply committed to the cultivation and promotion of vocations to priesthood in the Diocese of Bridgeport.

Bishop Caggiano came to Bridgeport from the Diocese of Brooklyn, where he was born and raised, the second of two children of Arnaldo and Gennarina Caggiano, both of whom immigrated to this country from Italy. A product of Catholic schools, Bishop Caggiano attended Sts. Simon and Jude grammar school and Regis High School before entering Yale University as a political science major. After further discernment, he transferred into Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, the college seminary of the Diocese of Brooklyn. After graduation he worked briefly in sales for the McGraw Hill Publishing Company before beginning his major seminary studies at the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, New York. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 16, 1987 in the chapel of the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston, Queens. On June 6, 2006 he was named Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn by Pope Benedict XVI.

A noted catechist, Bishop Caggiano was invited by Pope Benedict XVI to deliver World Youth Day talks in Sydney in 2008, Madrid in 2011, and by Pope Francis to serve as a catechist at World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, 2013. He also preached at the Youth 2000 Summer Festival in Tipperary, Ireland.
